Emilia Walser (Luna Jordan) has been trapped for years by guilt over the skiing accident that left her sister Clara (Alicia von Rittberg) in a coma. While their father Jakob (Carlo Ljubek) is on the verge of giving up on his older daughter and letting her die, Emilia attempts the impossible: bringing her sister back to life.
That chance arises when neuroscientist Dr. Hevi Abdel (Aybi Era) makes a groundbreaking discovery. Using nanobots, consciousness can be transferred from one body to another. Emilia becomes the first test subject for whom this “traveling” succeeds. She uses the technology to lend her own body to her comatose sister. A medical miracle—and an achievement that sparks desire. Especially from corporate boss Josephine Nansen (Désirée Nosbusch), who wants to commercialize the procedure as quickly as possible, disregarding ethical concerns.
As pressure mounts, Hevi increasingly crosses boundaries herself. And neither Emilia nor Hevi know whom they can trust: do the young research team members Robin (Simon Steinhorst) and Marit (Malaya Stern Takeda) have their own agenda? And where does Hevi’s husband and fellow scientist Lars (Robert Stadlober) truly stand?
Emilia ventures ever deeper into the world of “traveling,” willing to give everything for her sister. In the end, however, she is confronted with an existential question: does love mean holding on to someone—or letting them go?
